David Himle's teaching areas included test and performance, anxiety stress management, marital conflict, interpersonal practice and job satisfaction. He was noted to be a productive scholar, particularly in the areas of interdisciplinary studies on cognitive and behavioral theory and in interpersonal helping. He was known to his students and colleagues as a creative and stimulating teacher with a flair for telling stories of things his mother used to say as a way of explaining rather complex ideas.
