Theadia Carey

Theadia L. Carey, MD, MS is program director for the Authority Health Psychiatry Residency Program. She is certified in general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry by ABPN, also Addiction Medicine certified by ABAM. Dr. Theadia LaRue Carey, is a native Detroiter. She completed all of her schooling in the city. She is a product of Detroit Public Schools, graduating from Mumford High School. Dr. Carey has two Bachelor of Science degrees in Biological Sciences and Psychology from Wayne State University. She also, has a Doctor of Medicine and Masters of Science in Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences degrees from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Carey completed her Post-graduate training in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Health System. Because Dr. Carey is committed to improving the treatment of individual with mental illness including substance use disorders in Detroit, she works for Development Centers a non-profit community mental health clinic as medical director and staff psychiatrist. Dr. Carey is committed to educating the next generation of mental health professionals. She was previously a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, where she trained medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows. She was Director of the Advanced Fellowship in Substance Abuse treatment for the Ann Arbor Veteran Affairs Healthcare Systems. She has lectured to medical students, residents, social work interns and psychology fellows at multiple institutions including: John D. Dingle and Ann Arbor Veteran Affairs Healthcare Systems, University of Michigan, Henry Ford Healthcare System and Authority Health General Medical Education. She continues to present educational lectures and seminars for staff of Development Centers and Authority Health residents.
