This course presents advanced topics in Policy & Political Social Work. The topics may include emerging practice issues and advanced application of specific methods.
Topic Description: From the lens of the labor activist, we will discuss the strategy and tactics of labor unions within the U.S. legal context. The discussion will cover the historic connections between social work and the union movement, current union conditions and activity, the legal foundations for organizing and bargaining, and union and employer tactics within the contemporary U.S. institutional, economic and political context. We will also discuss the recent rise and role of non-profit worker centers.
