This course is taught by various members of the program faculty. Each version of the course has its own subtitle, some being offered one time only while others are repeated and may evolve into regular courses with their own course number and title. This is an appropriate selection for upper-level undergraduate students.
Diversity, Dialogues, and Social Justice: Amplifying the Voices of Young People. This course examines intergroup dialogues as a vehicle for strengthening social diversity and social justice, in areas that are becoming more segregated and more diverse --- with special emphasis on amplifying the voices of young people. It emphasizes dialogues as a process for young people to explore their own social identities, connect with others who are different from themselves, and collaborate across the segregated boundaries that separate and divide them. Topics will include privilege and power; prejudice and discrimination; conflict styles and emotional triggers; building alliances and coalitions; and dialogue as a vehicle for multicultural organizing. The course will be taught by Barry Checkoway, in collaboration with Roger Fisher of the Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR).
