This course presents advanced topics in Policy & Political Social Work. The topics may include emerging practice issues and advanced application of specific methods.

This course focuses on the role of social workers in protecting and advancing our democracy. The course will provide students with an understanding of the threats facing our democracy, the unique role that social workers have in it, and the tools to become more engaged.

Our democracy, as well as democracies around the world, are facing unprecedented threats. The January 6th Insurrection demonstrated how fragile of system of governance is and should serve as a call to action for all social workers. This course aims to contribute to the Democracy & Debate university-wide educational initiative by providing students a venue to explore concepts key to democratic systems and to connect them with efforts occurring across campus.
