This course presents advanced topics in interpersonal practice. The topics may include emerging practice methods, advanced application of methods covered in other required methods courses, and applications of methods in specific populations.
Mindfulness with Older Adults will look at using mindfulness as a tool when working with older adults, especially those who are family caregivers and experience feelings of stress, loneliness and isolation, grief and loss, uncertainty, guilt and/or regret. This course is appropriate for both those who are new to mindfulness/meditation, as well as for those who have a regular practice. The course will also visit how mindfulness can be a benefit at end-of-life, explore barriers and different meditation methods. The course will include online meetings and discussions, assignments and readings; as well as a daily meditation practice and reflective journal, the practice with an older adult (when available), and completion of a two-page paper.
