This course presents advanced topics in both micro and macro social work practice.  The topics may include emerging cross-cutting practice methods, advanced application of methods covered in other required methods courses, and applications of methods in specific populations.

Poverty and wealth have long been a concern of the world’s religions, and challenging question for ethicists. This course examines the shape that this concern takes in a variety of religious traditions and ethical systems throughout history and in the present day. We will examine questions such as: What is the responsibility of the individual, the community, or of society to care for the poor? Is the presence of poverty a threat to justice? How does a person’s belief shape their approach to these questions or to the presence of poverty in their community or in the world? What do religious and ethical value systems add to the work of ending poverty?
