This course presents advanced topics in interpersonal practice. The topics may include emerging practice methods, advanced application of methods covered in other required methods courses, and applications of methods in specific populations.
This course uses literature and reflective writing to help students increase self-awareness and self-reflection skills and to enhance their understanding of the complex and diverse ways in which communication occurs. The course will include readings of fiction, poetry and non-fiction pieces by authors from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds and from different age groups across that lifespan that reflect diverse approaches to communication among people. Students will discuss readings and write short reflective pieces in small groups with other students. The instructors will guide discussion of the readings and writings, helping students to learn non-judgmental ways of reacting to their own and others’ values and writing.
