This course presents advanced topics in macro social work practice. The topics may include emerging macro practice issues and advanced application of specific methods.

Generally speaking, "management" is getting work done through others"Leadership is creating and sustaining change without crisis. This minicourse explores these concepts in the context of community benefit organizations[CBOs](aka, nonprofits) . While CBOs are organizations, and thus share a lot of features with other kinds of organisations (corporate, governmental) they have many elements of unique structure and stricture.

They tend to work with "wicked problems"; they have a different governance structure from corporate and governmental organizations; they have a strong sense of mission and purpose, which is highly motivating but also can lead to under-investment in infrastructure both hardware (physical plant, etc) and software (employee training and development) We will use the Whetten and Cameron Managerial Skills Assay, and the competing values for nonprofits individual assessment, among other specifics, to assess our own skills and areas needed for development. We will use the POSSBE framework (Planning, Organizing, Strategizing, Staffing, Budgeting and Evaluation) to framework these skills.
