Associate Professor Shanna Kattari has received the CSWE Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Scholarship Award, which will be presented at CSWE’s 2026 Annual Conference in October in Atlanta.
"I am so honored that this community-driven intervention is being recognized for the impact it can have on the well-being of trans and gender diverse people. My collaborators in this work, Dr. Cecil McGhee and Brayden Misiolek of Transcend the Binary, are truly a dream team, and every stage of the design and execution of this intervention centered the desires and needs of trans Michiganders. Being recognized with this award means that the importance of university-community partnerships is being upheld, and serves as a reminder that trans people deserve more than survival; they deserve to experience joy, build community connections, access to training to support their fellow trans folks and to truly thrive.”
