Associate Professor Lisa Fedina and Professor Rich Tolman were quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education on their work as part of U-M’s Initiative to End Sexual and Gender Harassment, Harm, and Violence. The initiative looks at why harassment and abuse happen in organizations, prevention strategies and methods to cultivate safe communities. The recent scandals illustrate, said Fedina, “how power imbalances and institutional incentives to protect reputation can allow harm and abuse to continue.”
Tolman notes that these scandals affect the entire campus. “These can be deep betrayals for people. That just makes the story more heartbreaking.”
