  1. Denim Day Table - Raise Awareness about Sexual Assault Month

    April 11, 2015 (all day)

    Denim Day is based on an incident of rape where the assailant's case was dismissed due to the fact that the victim's jeans were "'so tight" that she supposedly had to consent in order to get them off. The denim began a symbol of the many misconceptions surrounding sexual violence and to bring awareness of the societal idealization of victim blaming.

    There will be a table at the U-M SSW to raise awareness about Safehouse (resource for female victims of abuse) and Denim Day (April 29). Information will be available via brochures/flyers and an advocate from Safehouse on April 11 during the Social Justice Art Festival.

     

  2. Field Placement Webinar for Students Entering Fall 2015

    April 14, 2015 - 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM ET

    This session will walk admitted students through the process of applying for a field placement. All students should plan to attend one of these sessions. Presenters will also discuss how to effectively utilize the Career Center in preparing field application materials. The last 30 minutes of the session will discuss specific information for students planning to apply for a school placement. 

    This is a web-based session and you may attend from any computer via an Internet connection.

  3. Advanced Field Peer Consultation Group

    April 15, 2015 - 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET

    The Peer Consultation Group offers a seminar-like experience where students can come to consult each other with field-related issues/support. The groups are open and drop-in. You can come to as many or as little as you like.

    When: Thursday & Friday April 16-17 &  Monday & Tuesday April 20-21, 2015

  5. Social Welfare in Qatar: Goals, Services and the State of Social Work in Qatar

    April 16, 2015 - 10:30 AM ET

    Visiting professor, Dr. Kaltam Al-Kuwari, will discuss the current state of social work services in Qatar. Topics will include the core values of the social welfare system, social services provided to Qatari citizens and goals for the future of social welfare in Qatar. Dr. Al-Kuwari will also speak on her own research into providing evidence based mental health care in Qatar.

  7. CASC Stress to Impress Event

    April 16, 2015 - 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM ET

    The CASC student advisory board is hosting its second "Stress to Impress: The Glorification of Busy" event. This will be a conversation on the college culture of stress and being busy, while also learning and applying fun stress management skill-building. Free food and fun activities such as meditation, coloring, cookie decorating, Playdoh, and Twister will be provided. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend!

  8. OGA Pre-Departure Orientation & Send-Off Dinner

    April 16, 2015 - 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM ET

    The Office of Global Activities will be hosting a pre-departureorientation and send-off dinner for all students having an educational experience abroad this spring/summer term. All students participating in Global Special Studies and Global Field Placement programs are required to attend.
