SSW Career Services Alumni Lunch Sessions: Katrina D. Studvent, LLMSW, Chair Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure and Director, Karmanos Cancer Institute

Katrina Studvent serves as the Race chair for the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure and Director of Breast Cancer Special Programs at Karmanos Cancer Institute where she received breast cancer treatment.  Katrina oversees sponsorship and daily operations of the 2 million revenue generating event.  Katrina received the 2009 Karmanos’ Heroes of Breast Cancer Geri Lester Courage award for her advocacy work as a survivor. Katrina is a graduate of Michigan State University James Madison College (BA) and the University of Michigan School of Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in Non-profit Management. Currently, she facilitates the Women of Color cancer group at Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit and started the Young Survival Coalition Face 2 Face Networking Group “Survivors on Location- Surviving in the D” that meets at varying venues around metro Detroit to give survivors under 40 a chance to connect, gain support and experience all the cool new spots around metro Detroit. Katrina is a committee member of the Charles H. Wright Women’s Committee, serves as Board Chair for AIDSWALK Detroit, advisory board member for Survivors in Spirit Digital Community website and board member of Health Emergency Lifeline Programs (HELP) providing financial assistance for individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
