    Shawna Lee and Brad Zebrack Inducted into 2017 Class of Fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research

    Associate Professor Shawna Lee and Professor Brad Zebrack were inducted as members of the 2017 Class of Fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR). The SSWR Fellows were established by the Society to honor and to recognize current SSWR members for their individual accomplishments, leadership and contribution to SSWR as a scientific society.

    Abigail Williams-Butler Defends Dissertation "The Role of Relational Permanence in Positive Outcomes among African American Adolescents in Foster Care"

    Abigail Williams-Butler successfully defended her dissertation "The Role of Relational Permanence in Positive Outcomes among African American Adolescents in Foster Care". She has accepted a postdoctoral fellowship followed by an assistant professorship at Rutgers University School of Social Work. Her committee consisted of Joseph Ryan, Vonnie McLoyd (co-chairs) John Schulenberg, Desmond Patton and Pamela Davis-Kean.

    Carrie Disney and Scott Stanfill are Certified Research Administrators

    Carrie Disney, Research Process Coordinator and Scott Stanfill, Research Services Manager have completed and passed the certified research administrators exam. The exam is managed by the Research Administrators Certification Council an independent professional organization. The core content for the certificate emphasizes: leadership development, research administration, research and faculty development, innovation, economic development, integrity and stewardship. There are 20 Certified Research Administrators (CRA) on the three U-M campuses, SSW has 10% of U-M's CRAs.

    Emily Nicklett, Daphne Watkins, Edie Kieffer, and Michael Spencer Published in American Journal of Men's Health

    Assistant Professor Emily Nicklett, Associate Professor Daphne Watkins, and professors Edie Kieffer and Michael Spencer's article, "An Exploratory Study of the Impact of Gender on Health Behavior Among African American and Latino Men With Type 2 Diabetes" was published in the American Journal of Men's Health.

    Kristin Seefeldt's Op-Ed Published in Newsweek

    Assistant Professor Kristin Seefeldt's Op-Ed "Who are the voters who might be the most left-behind?" was published in Newsweek magazine. The op-ed examines research from her new book, Abandoned Families. Her book is scheduled to be published on December 25, 2016.

    Associate Professors Brian Perron, Joe Ryan and the SSW Data Lab's article, " Longitudinal trends in substance use and mental health service needs in child welfare" was published in Children and Youth Services Review.

    Assistant Professor Cristina Bares was accepted into the 2017 University of Michigan Medical School Mentored Research Academy.

    David Córdova Published in Journal of Youth and Adolescence

    Assistant Professor David Córdova's article, "Personal Identity Development in Hispanic Immigrant Adolescents: Links with Positive Psychosocial Functioning, Depressive Symptoms, and Externalizing Problems" was published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence

  10. Lorraine M. Gutiérrez
     
    Lorraine Gutiérrez to Serve as Inaugural Director of SSW's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiative

    On October 5, 2016 the School publicly published its Strategic Plan for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The plan will requires a strong leader, therefore, Professor Lorraine Gutiérrez will serve as the inaugural Director of SSW's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiative.  Lorraine has been a national leader in diversity and social justice in social work. Her scholarship is core reading in most BS and MSW programs. She is the recipient of the 2016 distinguished faculty award at SSW, she is ranked as a high impact female social work scholar and received the "Blue Flame" lifetime achievement award from the Organization of Latino American Social Workers. Lorraine is currently serving as Chair of the Personality and Social Contexts Psychology Program and the Arthur F Thurnau Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology. She is already working together with key faculty and the dean's office in advancing the plan this semester and will assume the role's full responsibilities in January.
