Angie Perone (PhD student) and Associate Professor Beth Glover Reed received a grant to create the "Critical Intersectionality Interdisciplinary Workshop" from Rackham Graduate School. This workshop will provide space for graduate students to discuss, share readings, and present research regarding complex theoretical and methodological issues related to intersectionality.
Assistant Professor David Cordova received a grant for his project, ''Greater Than'' from Teen Hype. This Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration-funded project is a community-university partnership between Teen Hype (Detroit) and the SSW. The five-year initiative aims to build capacity for substance abuse and HIV prevention services for at-risk racial/ethnic minority youth residing in the Detroit Metropolitan Area.
Janelle Goodwill (PhD student) and Associate Professor Daphne Watkins' article, "Strengths and Weaknesses of the Young Black Men, Masculinities, and Mental Health (YBMen) Facebook Project" was published in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry.
Katherine Oglesby (MSW '14) and Professor Daniel Saunders' article, "No way to turn: The traps encountered by many battered women with negative child custody experiences" was published in the Journal of Child Custody.
Sara Stein (PhD student) and Associate Professor Andy Grogan-Kaylor's article, "Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Latina women: Examining the efficacy of the Moms' Empowerment Program" was published in Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy.
Professor Daniel Saunders' article, "Police responses to cases of officer-involved domestic violence: The effects of a brief web-based training" was published in Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice.
Joyce Lee (PhD student) and Associate Professor Shawna Lee's article, "Caring is Masculine: Stay-at-Home Fathers and Masculine Identity" was published in Psychology of Men & Masculinity. The study examines stay-at-home fathers in the United States and their experiences through the perspective of the theory of caring masculinities.
LEO Lecturer Adrienne Lapidos and Associate Professor Luke Shaefer's op-ed, "Viewpoint: Dental therapists can improve oral health in Michigan." was published in the Lansing State Journal.
U-M President Mark Schlissel announced a new multidisciplinary program, Poverty Solutions headed by Associate Professor Luke Shaefer. Poverty Solutions aims to become a leader in informing, identifying and testing new strategies for the prevention and alleviation of poverty in Michigan, the nation and the world.
Schlissel stated, "One out of eight Americans live in poverty, and some Michigan cities are sometimes three times higher than that. The aim is to translate research into actionable interventions and rigorously assess their effectiveness."

Professor Brad Zebrack received a grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute for his project, ''Building a Patient-Centered Research Cooperative Group for Psychosocial Oncology''. This grant will support the development of a community of cancer patient advocates, oncology social workers, and social work researchers devoted to improving the quality of cancer care and eliminating cancer disparities in the United States. The project will be headquartered at SSW.
