    Join us for a live broadcast! The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) offers loan repayment assistance to support qualified health care providers who choose to take their skills where they're most needed. This broadcast session will present information specifically for social workers.

  4. National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Info Session

    October 16, 2014 - 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM ET


    The School of Social Work will be hosting a broadcast of a presentation by The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) to inform students about opportunities through their program to receive up to $50,000 toward student loans.

    The NHSC has loan repayment programs for many health fields, this presentation will be specifically for social workers. 
     
    When: Thursday, October 16 from 5:30-6:30

    The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) offers loan repayment assistance to support qualified health care providers who choose to take their skills where they’re most needed.

    The NHSC Loan Repayment Program: This program is open to licensed primary care medical, dental, and mental and behavioral health providers who are employed or have accepted an offer of employment at an NHSC-approved site and will begin working by July 15, 2015. Awardees receive up to $50,000 in exchange for two-years of service if they practice in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) of 14 and above (Tier I). Awardees can also receive up to $30,000 in exchange for two-years of service if they practice in a HPSA of 13 and below. In FY2013, all of the NHSC’s loan repayment awards were made to providers located in a Tier 1 HPSA. There were a total of 4,505 awards made (2,106 new and 2,399 continuations) totaling $169.7 million.

  6. Private Practice Tips & Techniques for Social Workers - Day 1

    October 17, 2014 - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET

    This course will cover the basics of starting a social work private practice including strategic planning, types of private practice, options for business structures & tips & techniques.  Participants will begin to create a draft strategic plan & make other commitments to next steps.

  7. Activism in Detroit

    October 17, 2014 - 9:15 AM to 4:45 PM ET

    Interested in learning more about Detroit? Come join students from across the University as we engage with the city through dialogue with community members and activists, explore city businesses and organizations on a walking tour, and eat delicious, locally catered food.

    This trip involves an approximately 1 mile walking tour and involves staircases. Please let us know if you need any physical accomodations and we will do our best to meet your needs.

  9. Research Center for Group Dynamics: Social Media and Violent Behavior

    October 20, 2014 - 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM ET

    For some 65 years the Research Center for Group Dynamics has had a seminar series in Fall and Winter terms to examine issues of individual and group behavior from a psychological perspective.  This Fall, their faculty is focusing on social media and asking whether the widespread use of social media changes our understanding of human behavior in important ways.

    The series is organized by Scott Campbell from Communication Studies, with assistance from Oscar Ybarra and Ethan Kross in Psychology.  The talks are on Mondays, 3:30 - 5 PM and the opening seminar is Monday, September 15.  The talks are open to all.
