    Have you wanted to learn more about and experience Guided Imagery? Join us for a break from the busyness of life by engaging in a Guided Imagery session lead by Claire Casselman, LMSW from of the Complementary Therapies Program of the University of Michigan's Comprehensive Cancer Center.

  2. Critical Intersectionality Interdisciplinary Workshop

    The Critical Intersectionality Interdiciplinary Workshop provides space for graduate students to discuss, share readings, and present research regarding complex theoretical and methodological issues related to intersectionality. Graduate students at any stage of their research are welcome. Lunch will be provided.

    Film Synopsis

    They came to have their babies. They went home sterilized. The story of immigrant mothers who sued county doctors, the state, and the U.S. government after they were pushed into sterilizations while giving birth at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center during the 1960s and 70s. Led by an intrepid, 26-year-old Chicana lawyer and armed with hospital records secretly gathered by a whistle-blowing young doctor, the mothers faced public exposure and stood up to powerful institutions in the name of justice. 

     

     

  8. Meet and Greet Reception with Dr. Taharee A. Jackson, PhD. Meet and Greet Reception with Dr. Taharee A. Jackson, PhD.

    October 11, 2016 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

    We welcome you to engage and enjoy refreshments with Dr. Taharee A. Jackson, an Assistant Professor of Minority and Urban Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is visiting the SSW as a guest lecturer and co-facilitator in Dr. Jamie Mitchell’s course: SW504, Social Justice and Diversity in Social Work. Specifically, Dr. Jackson will be leading discussions around the SW504 Book Club Reading, Nobody: The War on the Vulnerable from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond by Marc Lamont Hill.

    Dr. Jackson investigates issues of equity and race in teacher education and urban education reform. She is particularly interested in how members of privileged groups become advocates and allies for others, and the most salient factors that influence the beliefs and practices of deeply committed urban teachers. Dr. Jackson’s research will be published in her forthcoming book, A Different Way to be White:  How White Urban Teachers and Teacher Educators Become Antiracist.

  9. Navigating the U.S. Job Search (for international students only)

    October 11, 2016 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

    Do you plan to work in the United States after finishing your degree? This program is designed to help international students maximize their chances of finding employment in this country. We'll discuss interview preparation, resume writing, cross-cultural issues, networking, and ways to identify appropriate opportunities. We'll also provide an overview of immigration regulations pertinent to international students, and Career Center services that are available to you on this campus.

  10. Oakland University Grad. School Night

    October 11, 2016 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm

    An admissions representive will attend Oakland University's BSW Program Grad. School Night to share information about U-M's MSW and PhD programs.
