to

We welcome you to engage and enjoy refreshments with Dr. Taharee A. Jackson, an Assistant Professor of Minority and Urban Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is visiting the SSW as a guest lecturer and co-facilitator in Dr. Jamie Mitchell’s course: SW504, Social Justice and Diversity in Social Work. Specifically, Dr. Jackson will be leading discussions around the SW504 Book Club Reading, Nobody: The War on the Vulnerable from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond by Marc Lamont Hill.

Dr. Jackson investigates issues of equity and race in teacher education and urban education reform. She is particularly interested in how members of privileged groups become advocates and allies for others, and the most salient factors that influence the beliefs and practices of deeply committed urban teachers. Dr. Jackson’s research will be published in her forthcoming book, A Different Way to be White:  How White Urban Teachers and Teacher Educators Become Antiracist.
