    On December 1, 2015 U-M is once again turning Giving Tuesday—the national movement to kick off the giving season—into ‪#‎GivingBlueday. 

    It's a day for everyone who loves Michigan to join together to support students, transform lives, shape the world, and make great things happen.

    Gifts made by students on Giving Blueday will be doubled, thanks to the generosity of anonymous donors (while funds last).

  3. Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Developing Core Skills

    December 4, 2015 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

    Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills and concepts are useful tools to help increasesense of self, improve behavior associated with dysregulated emotion. Ineffective behaviors usually appear when emotion is intense. DBT concepts and skills help people to have more control over behavior when situations increase the potential for acting on high emotion. Professionals will also learn skills to manage their own emotions as they help others. This training will give practical, researched strategies for everyone present in the service of helping adults, adolescents,and families we serve as well as our own individual lives and professional practice.

  4. CASC Info Session

    December 4, 2015 - 12:00pm to 12:30pm

    Interested in learning more about the Community Action and Social Change minor? Come to this info session to learn more about the CASC community, what CASC is and what it can offer you in your undergraduate program, the types of courses you'll take, and the available opportunities for CASC students after graduation! 

  5. PhotoVoice Exhibit Opening

    December 4, 2015 - 6:00pm

    Lorraine Gutiérrez’s PhotoVoice mini-course will culminate in a photography exhibit in the SSW building. PhotoVoice is an participatory action research method that uses photography to share individual and collective experiences. A PhotoVoice exhibit is focused on a theme or issue to express to the community and decision makers.

    This PhotoVoice exhibit will focus on a range of themes such as educational inequity, cultural identity, food and nutrition,and  environmental justice. All are invited to the opening. There will be light refreshments. 

  6. Diversity Discussion Meeting

    December 7, 2015 - 12:30pm to 2:00pm

    This discussion event is co-sponsored by The SSW People of Color Collective, the School of Social Work Student Union and The School of Social Work. All SSW community members are invited to participate in small group discussions on topics related to diversity as well as provide feedback for future events planned for next term.

  7. MSW Student Dinner & Study Space

    December 7, 2015 - 5:00pm to 9:00pm

    During this busy and hectic time, The SSW People of Color Collective, The School of Social Work Student Union, and The School of Social Work will be co-sponsoring dinner and study space.  This is an opportunity to grab a bite to eat, connect with other students, and complete your end of term assignments in a communal space.  

    Dinner will be provided from 5:30-7pm.  Study space will be available until 9pm.

  9. CASC 5th Year Anniversary

    Join us in celebrating the 5th year anniversary of the CASC minor! This early evening reception will be an opportunity to highlight CASC in the SSW and across the University. We are thankful for the support and want to honor the people who helped create CASC, showcase our student and alumni experiences, and share in an evening of community action and social change.

  10. Child & Adolescent Data Lab Lunch Series: Data Visualization

    December 10, 2015 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

    Get introduced to the "Grammar of Graphics" to maximize the potential of visualizing data using ggplot.

    This lunch series is open to all students, faculty, and researchers who are interested in learning about data science tools and how they can be applied to a wide variety of research areas. These are introductory sessions. Participants should have some familiarity with or interest in learning R and R-related tools.

    Lunch provided for free by the Data Lab.
