  1. 2014 U-M Social Innovation Summit

    The 2014 U-M Social Innovation Summit will feature entrepreneur and social innovator Aaron Hurst. Hurst is the Founder of the Taproot Foundation, where he catalyzed the $15 billion pro bono service market, Founder & CEO of Imperative, a platform that enables people to discover, connect, and act on what gives them purpose in their work, and Author of The Purpose Economy.

    Globally known for his thought leadership and a regular blogger for the Huffington Post, Stanford Social Innovation Review and LinkedIn, Hurst is a member of the Nonprofit Times’ Power & Influence Top 50, and has been recognized as a top social entrepreneur by Fast Company, Ashoka, and the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation.     During the Social Innovation Summit, Hurst and other leaders from across sectors will reveal how they have found purpose through their careers.     Homeless people who struggle with compromised mental and physical health as well as drug use while cycling in and out of correctional facilities are at the center of numerous overlapping issues connected to extreme poverty. Conducting research with this population is essential to our understanding of severe deprivation, but doing so can present challenges with study retention and the ethical imperative to intervene.
