In India, women face intersecting barriers — including gender discrimination, unequal access to education as well as persistent mental health issues — that impact their safety, opportunity and well-being. The collective resistance of Indian women provides social workers with lessons in how change happens, and what meaningful, culturally responsive support can look like.
I am grateful for the efforts of the incredible people actively working to create change and who were willing to share their experiences with my cohort. Their insights have broadened my perspective and I will continue to highlight their amazing work in hopes to bring more light to Chennai, India.
