Fall New Student Orientation and SEED

New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation for MSW students, which includes SEED activities, will be held August 30 - September 1, 2016. Orientation activities on August 30, 31, and September 1st are required for all incoming MSW students. A pre-field instruction workshop on August 31st is required for students beginning advanced field instruction in the fall term.

Orientation is a great opportunity to meet and connect with MSW students, faculty, and staff. During Orientation students will also receive their faculty advisor assignment, attend SEED mini-courses, and attend a pre-field instruction workshop (if beginning field in the fall).

If you are unable to attend any of the Orientation activities, or have any other questions regarding Orientation, please contact the Office of Student Services at (734) 936-0961 or ssw.oss@umich.edu.

You may wish to check back periodically, as the Fall Orientation schedule is a work-in-progress and updates will be made throughout the summer.

SEED

Share, Explore, Engage, Discover (SEED) 2016 is the School of Social Work's first semester experience offered during Fall term. SEED features programming tailored to incoming students as well as returning students, faculty, and staff. The goals of SEED include strengthening connection and community at the School of Social Work, exploring PODS (privilege, oppression, diversity, & social justice), and learning foundation-level social work skills.

SEED Mini-courses (SW 510)
(for incoming students only)

Twelve social work topics offered during orientation as foundation-level mini-courses. Incoming students are required to enroll in one SEED mini-course of their choice. Please note that registration is on a rolling basis and your top choices may be filled.

One of the twelve topics (Section 12) is a blended section that will be offered in the evenings. Students attending this blended section are not required to attend the SEED Welcome and will be given a recording of the welcome program.

To receive (1) academic credit, full attendance is required on 8/30 and 9/1. Mini-courses will be held in the School of Social Work and East Hall. Please refer to your orientation schedule for the location and room number of your section.
