  1. Workshop: Working with Older Adult Immigrants

    October 22, 2015 - 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET

    This workshop will explore issues related to aging among immigrants. Different categories of older adult immigrants will be described and adjustment issues, including mental health issues, cultural adaptation and role reversal will be discussed. Some of the cultural barriers to using services and programs will be examined, as well as special citizenship and civil rights issues that apply to older people.

    Óscar Martínez is a Salvadoran journalist and author of The Beast: Riding the Rails and Dodgine Narcos on the Migrant Trail.

    On Saturday October 24, from 8:30 am - 4 pm the conference continues bringing together activists, academics, journalists, and social workers to examine the origins of the wave of immigrants from Central America, what is driving them to migrate, and the responses of governments and communities.
