  1. Multicultural Competencies in Sexuality Education, Counseling, and Therapy

    July 21, 2016 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    This course will address the sexual health needs of individuals and couples throughout the adult lifespan over diverse cultures and populations. This interpersonal practice minicourse can augment other interpersonal practice courses or can be taken independently. Building on basic sex therapy models and integrating these models with multicultural counseling theory and cultural and ethical competencies, course participants will examine their own cultural backgrounds, belief systems, and biases specifically with reference to sexual health. Utilizing the lifespan approach, key considerations in sexual health education and sexual health treatments will be described. Course participants will learn culturally appropriate assessment, diagnosis, and brief intervention approaches and will be challenged to think about the adjustment of interventions to include multicultural considerations and the intersectionality of clients' identities.   2. Spring/Summer Term Social Justice Grand Rounds Series: "F's Story: Obesity, Health, and Social Justice"

    July 21, 2016 - 10:30am to 12:00pm

    Social Justice Grand Rounds is the only structured event at U-M that formally unites graduate students in social work, field instructors, other social workers, and social work faculty in a collaborative effort to address social injustice through the use of an actual case illustrative of injustice in health care, as presented by a student in field at UMHS. Students from other health sciences schools are invited to attend.

    In its intent and in its content, this event is highly relevant to Social Work ethics, practice, theory,  interprofessional education, standards, policy, & professional development.

    *CE availability:  1.5 CE per event.  No registration is necessary (*Please note the SJGR count as ethics CEU’s)
