Peaceful Means is a community-based research program  — part of the Interpersonal Violence Research Laboratory (IRVL) — dedicated to finding solutions to prevent sexual violence against Oglala Lakota youth on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Through this initiative, youth in grades K-12 received an evidence-based sexual violence prevention curriculum aimed at preventing, intervening and recovering from sexual violence. The program has yielded significant and meaningful results in preventing sexual violence both internationally and locally. In its third year of implementation, Peaceful Means has taught over 1,500 youth and is preparing to create programming specifically for 2SLGBTQ+ youth, justice-involved youth, and survivors of sexual assault, as directed by the community.
