Patrick Meehan
Program Manager
Patrick Meehan has been working with vulnerable families and youth since 2006. As the inaugural Program Manager of the Center for Equitable Family and Community Well-Being, he oversees progress toward its strategic vision. He has successfully managed several research projects to completion, and has collected more than 7,000 exit surveys for Grow Detroit's Young Talent since 2010.
Patrick received his PhD in Social Work and Political Science from the University of Michigan in 2019, and his MSW from the University of Michigan in 2011. He also received his BS in education from the University of Wisconsin in 2005.
Research interests include oppressive systems, poverty, child development, and community/political engagement.

Michael Kloc
Project Coordinator
Michael Kloc MSW is a dedicated Project Coordinator with a passion for equity issues in Michigan. With over a decade of experience working with community organizations, he has become intentional at creating partnerships that prioritize community participation. As the Project Coordinator for the Center for Equitable Family and Community Well-Being, Michael draws on his diverse knowledge and experience to help create an evolving academic community.
Michael received his Master of Social Work in Global Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2022, and also holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Oakland University, which he completed in 2021. His research interests include environmental justice, immigration, poverty, and community/political engagement.

Shelby Spangler
Research Assistant
Shelby Spangler, MSW Field Student at the Center for Equitable Family & Community Well-Being, completed her BSW at Saginaw Valley State University in 2023 with a minor in Psychology. Passionate about housing justice and equity work related to poverty issues, Shelby brings a wealth of experience, including clinical work with children with autism and case management in eviction prevention. Her multidimensional expertise enriches her role at the Center, where she adeptly bridges the gap between research and community-oriented initiatives. Shelby's future aspirations include continuing in Macro social work locally in Michigan, advocating for initiatives that help the most oppressed groups.
