CASC minor global opportunities are co-sponsored by the School of Social Work, Office of Global Activities. Experiences provided by the minor emphasize the school’s objective to provide global social work experiences through funding, programs, academic resources, and internationalized curriculum.
Participating students will enroll in a total of three independent study credits that explore global social work curricular competencies including
Students selected are required to enroll in the SW 415 course number for three credits with CASC faculty. As a component of the global independent study, students will be required to complete assignments and engage in structured activities prior to departure, develop a relevant project of their choosing, and complete post - visit requirements, upon their return.

In this opportunity, CASC students will participate in community development work as a part of the Madras Christian College Field Action Program. This experience located in Chennai, India will focus on the principles of community participation and indigenous social work at the intersection of rural development in the region. Students will work alongside local advocates and Madras Christian College faculty and students to support community needs.
In this opportunity, U-M social work, nursing, and medical students will travel to Uganda for six (6) weeks after attending lectures focused on Ugandan community health at U-M. Students will be placed in a rural Ugandan community and participate in a training on leadership and management at the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
