Summary: This position is responsible for ensuring exception customer service and clinical care. This position is responsible for providing timely and clinically appropriate crisis intervention, screenings, and referrals that adhere to standards of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), CARF, and the Michigan Mental Health Code. This position requires the ability to foster positive engagement with potential stakeholders (students, parents, guardians, families, and school district community) that will assist individual students in their path to recovery and self-sufficiency. This position is assigned to a school on school days during the course of the year in addition to professional development days stated on the district calendar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: 1. Providing classroom, group, and individual counseling for children who are experiencing adjustment difficulties in school, home, or the community with and emphasis on early intervention 2. Encouraging and assisting families in their pursuit of community services that may assist in the remediation of school centered problems by providing home visits. 3. Assisting families in preventing problems by facilitating communication with the school. 4. Assisting families to understand problems experienced by their children. This is accomplished through individual and/or group counseling, parent training, and referrals to community services. 5. Providing collaboration and consultation regarding student problems and coordinating plans and actions to meet them. Early identification is emphasized. 6. Assisting in planning educational interventions/services for students that are experiencing social and emotional difficulties. 7. Facilitating the involvement of community agencies in efforts directed toward the remediation of student problems in the school environment. 8. Providing in-service to school staff on trauma-informed care for students. 9. Supporting the engagement of students in after-school activities that support healthy social and emotional relationship-building for student success. 10. Assist school administration, when requested, investigating disciplinary issues and working with student to recognize and support appropriate behavior. May assist with behavior plan development and progress monitoring along with the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). 11. Maintaining records of all services provided to students, student groups, and families. 12. Maintain reports of work with students to include social histories, adaptive behavior, reports of differential diagnoses, and support with truancy/child neglect reports. 13. Collaborate with school administrators to create and file reports to appropriate local, state and federal agencies. 14. Maintain a familiarity of school policies and procedures. 15. Provides trauma-sensitive and recovery-focused services that result in a positive outcome and experience for students and their families. 16. Home visits and travel are often required within Jackson County. 17. Attends and participates in school district in-service professional learning, as well as training appropriate to perform essential job functions. 18. Responsible for accurate and clinically competent documentation of all information regarding consumer treatment within timeliness standards. 19. May conduct specialty assessments, based on licensing qualifications, including but not limited to: adaptive behavior, early intellectual development, cognitive ability, and/or special behavioral observations. 20. Completes filing, typing, and other duties that support the school district team, as needed. 21. May participate in student study team meetings, 504 meetings and parent/guardian meetings along with conferences, as needed. 22. Protects student and district information through maintaining confidential records and information, in a manner that observes HIPAA and FERPA guidelines. 23. Aligns daily tasks and functions with the school district strategic plan elements related to essential job functions 24. Position has a paid, half-hour lunch where the employee is required to remain on-site, unless authorized to leave the building by the principal. 25. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises students as necessary to perform essential functions.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. At least 2 years experience with mentally ill, developmentally disabled, and/or co-occurring children, as well as children with emotional disturbance, preferred. Experience in crisis intervention. Able to establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, teachers, staff, and school administration. Education, Certifications, and Experience: Master degree in human service field, preferred. Appropriate social worker licensure with the State of Michigan, required. This position may require LLMSW or LMSW. CPI Non-violent crisis intervention training, upon hire, required Mental Health First Aid training, upon hire, required Must have reliable transportation (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.) Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Skilled in the effective presentation of information and response to questions from students, parents, teachers, and business and industry representatives.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program to provide trauma informed care. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
