Classification: Full-time employment; exempt from overtime (administrative exemption)

Reports To: Senior Consultant

Summary: Public Sector Consultants (PSC) seeks a consultant to support its energy and environment team. The consultant will serve as a grant manager for the Great Lakes Fishery Trust (GLFT)—a multimillion-dollar charitable foundation managed by PSC—assist with daily operations; and provide grant management services. In addition, the consultant will conduct research for the firm and its clients, assist in developing proposals, and write reports.

Essential Duties

  • Approximately half of the consultant’s time will be dedicated to the GLFT and will include the following duties:
  • Communicate regularly with grant applicants and grantees
  • Review submitted proposals and evaluate them for soundness of project design
  • Coordinate review processes with GLFT and external peer reviewers
  • Perform administrative duties related to the above responsibilities (database management, webpage maintenance, newsletter development, award notification letters, review of grantee reports, etc.)
  • The remaining half of the consultant’s time will be dedicated to supporting PSC’s energy and environment team by performing the following duties:
  • Conduct, translate, and analyze public policy research, primarily in content areas related to natural resource or environmental management
  • Develop research reports, strategy documents, grant applications, and other client deliverables
  • Support planning and facilitation of meetings, focus groups, and events
  • Contribute to cultivating new business through supporting proposal writing
  • Support project management by maintaining organized files and timelines

Qualifications

  • Strong research and writing skills with the ability to accurately interpret data and write concisely
  • Demonstrated experience performing comparable duties
  • Knowledge of and interest in education, talent, economic development, and/or related public policy topics
  • Strong competency using Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to education, public policy, or economics
  • Master’s degree or at least three years of relevant experience preferred

  • Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an indoor, environmentally controlled office setting with extended periods (approximately eight hours or more a day) at a computer, on the telephone, sitting, or standing. The nature of the work has frequent interruptions, contact with the public and clients, performance of repetitive tasks, and requires strong communication skills. While the employee may be required to work beyond normal working hours, PSC strives for staff to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
