Section 1.10.01: Changing Curriculum Track

In the on-campus MSW program, admitted students may want to change their curriculum schedules (e.g. advanced standing, 16 months, 20 months, Masters International Volunteer Program, MasterTrack track, etc.). These should proceed as follows:

A. Changes prior to beginning the first term.
Such students may request the change by emailing the Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management at [email protected] including an explanation of the desired change. Students will be required to seek approval from the Office of Field Education by emailing the Office of Field Education at [email protected] to assess any impact on the field placement schedule and determine the feasibility of accommodating the change request. In some situations, this may impact your start date of field. Students should also confirm that their curriculum schedule change will not conflict with the conditions required of any grant or scholarship offered by the School of Social Work.

Admitted on-campus students with advanced-standing status wanting to change their curriculum schedule to 16 months or 20 months, must submit a
Decline/Renounce Advanced Standing Status form to the Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management at [email protected]. Upon receipt of a signed Decline/Renounce Advanced Standing Status form, the decision is irrevocable. The Decline/Renounce Advanced Standing Status form can be found at https://ssw.umich.edu/r/decline-renounce-advanced-standing .

B. Changes after beginning the first term.
After enrollment, on-campus students wishing to change to a different field placement schedule must submit an Out of Sequence Petition Form. Such requests may be granted only if the field education requirements and course requirements can be met and are deemed educationally sound. It is important to note that these changes may have impacts on the ability of financial aid.
