Dr. Barbas (a.k.a. Nan) is currently Associate Professor of Neurology and Director of the Cognitive Disorders Clinic at the University of Michigan Health System. She received her undergraduate, social work and medical education at the University of Michigan and completed neurology residency and fellowship at the Tufts New England Medical Center. Joining the Department of Neurology in 1991, she has devoted time to caring for patients with a variety of neurologic diseases at the University of Michigan Health Systen and at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Currently, her time is dedicated primarily to the care of individuals with dementia and related conditions and to medical education. She is active in clinical trial research focusing on development of treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and has served as site Principal Director for over twenty protocols for drugs in development. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center. She is committed to improving clinical care delivery to patients with cognitive disorders and developing collaborative relationships with nurses, social workers and psychologists within a multi-disciplinary treatment model.
