  1. Multicultural Competencies in Sexuality Education, Counseling, and Therapy

    July 10, 2020 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    This course will address the sexual health needs of individuals and couples throughout the adult lifespan over diverse cultures and populations. This interpersonal practice minicourse can augment other interpersonal practice courses or can be taken independently. Building on basic sex therapy models and integrating these models with multicultural counseling theory and cultural and ethical competencies, course participants will examine their own cultural backgrounds, belief systems, and biases specifically with reference to sexual health. Utilizing the lifespan approach, key considerations in sexual health education and sexual health treatments will be described. Course participants will learn culturally appropriate assessment, diagnosis, and brief intervention approaches and will be challenged to think about the adjustment of interventions to include multicultural considerations and the intersectionality of clients identities.   2. Budgeting and Fiscal Management

    July 10, 2020 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    This course will present the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to develop and manage the budget of a nonprofit social service organization and its programs. Students will learn to use techniques necessary to: 1) Plan, develop, display, revise, monitor, and evaluate a program budget; 2) Evaluate past financial performance (e.g. financial statements); 3) Monitor and evaluate the cost-efficiency and cost-effectiveness of a nonprofit program and a nonprofit organization.

  3. Free Your Mind: Push Yourself To Follow

    July 10, 2020 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

    The workshop encourages participants to define and identify oppressive ideas and behaviors and the impact on marginalized populations. Participants will work collaboratively to examine individual biases and develop a plan to actively change individual and systematic oppressive actions.

    Participants in the session will participate in lecture and small group discussions to develop increased awareness and identify methods to disrupt practice of systematic oppression and the outcomes.

  5. Moving Beyond White Social Work: Incorporating African Centered Social Work into Social Work Education

    This workshop will provide an overview of the development, implementation, and evaluation processes of a cohort of learners focused on gaining advanced skills in being leaders in working with and within Black communities and organizations by utilizing African Centered theoretical approaches.

  8. Attachment Theory and Clinical Practice through the Life Span

    July 17, 2020 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    Understanding the implications of early relationships on adult functioning can inform adult psychotherapy in ways that can assist clients in their capacity to form and maintain healthy relationships. Using attachment theory as the foundation, this course will address relationship-based intervention in interpersonal practice with adults.

  9. Criminal Justice Reform and Debrief: What Can We Do as a School?

    July 17, 2020 - 12:30pm

    With our privilege, resources, and knowledge - what can we do as a school to address this issue? All discussions and ideas are welcome - whether it be proposing new field placements that focus on criminal justice reform, integrating more course content on the history and creation of policing and it’s direct link to slavery, discussing how we are being affected by the trauma of violence against our communities, or discussing ideas for other ways that the school can participate in this moment in history and be a part of the story advocating for change.

  10. Path to Licensure Workshop - What You Need to Know!

    July 20, 2020 - 12:00pm

    Michelle Woods, Director of SSW Career Services, will present introductory information about social work licensure. She will explain what you need to know about licensure, how to prepare for licensure, the application process and a discussion of licensure exams will be presented. Please come with all of your questions and conerns to help demystify licensure!
