  1. Affirmative Counseling and Advocacy with TGLBQ People

    November 17, 2018 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    This course will introduce and address issues of concern to interpersonal practice clients that identify as Transgender, Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Queer or questioning, focusing on the basic knowledge, interpersonal practice and advocacy skills it takes to become increasingly competent in providing counseling and advocacy for people who are members of these marginalized, yet highly resilient, groups. From a strength-based perspective, grounded in Affirmative Practice Principles, this course will focus on basic social work knowledge and understanding of these groups, the social injustice and stigma they face; but ultimately, how to effectively engage, assess and intervene with current, associated issues through therapy and advocacy. This course will also address self-exploration and ethical dilemmas for social work students and providers with TBLGQ people, and include real practice experiences with people from our local community.   2. Unite for Social Change Lunch Social

    Trying to find a yummy, fast, and affordable meal for lunch? Wanting to find a convenient location for lunch meetings? Bring $5 cash to the SSW Lower Atrium to join the Lunch Social!

    The U-M SSW is launching bi-weekly lunch socials in Fall 2018 as a part of the Unite for Social Change initiative that allow students, faculty and staff to come together and share delicious meals. We ask for a $5 recommended donation for each meal (cash only). Your donation will support the Student Union, a student organization, and future lunch socials.

  6. Info Session for MICHR Summer Research Program

    November 27, 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

    Join MICHR staff for a snack and learn more about the MICHR Summer Research Program!

    The MICHR Summer Program introduces students to research early in their courses of study, and provides hands-on research experiences in health disparities or clinical research.  The program may serve as an internship for students who need to fulfill such requirements.

    Light refreshments, in the form of fruit and cookies, will be provided.

  7. CASC Giving Blueday Power Hour CASC Giving Blueday Power Hour

  9. Professional Development after the MSW Program- Career Advancement & Michigan Licensure

    NASW-Michigan Director of Member Services Duane Breijak, LMSW will walk you through some of the immediate obstacles you may face when entering the profession. This workshop will provide an overview of the licensure process in Michigan, supervision requirements, the ASWB exam, as well as give new professional tools for salary negotiation and career advancement.

    Come learn about the Community Technical Assistance Collaborative (CTAC) on the University of Michigan's campus. Over lunch, learn about our model, our projects, and how to get involved in the Winter semester and beyond! CTAC is a great way to learn marketable, tangible skills in program evaluation, data analysis, and client engagement. Work directly with community members to support their work whlie learning skills to launch your career.
