  1. Ambassador Fall Hike Ambassador Fall Hike

    October 26, 2019 - 1:00pm

    Join your fellow MSW students for a Fall break to enjoy the fall foliage and brisk weather. The Brighton Recreation Area offers barrier-free facilities and accessible restrooms and trails. With various trails ranging from 1 mile to 18 miles, this is the perfect spot for the novice and experienced hikers alike and everyone in between.

    Family and friends are more than welcome! Come and go as you are able. Snacks will be provided.

  2. Path to Licensure Workshop - What You Need to Know!

    October 28, 2019 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

    Michelle Woods, Director of SSW Career Services, will present introductory information about social work licensure. She will explain what you need to know about licensure, how to prepare for licensure, the application process and a discussion of licensure exams will be presented. Please come with all of your questions and conerns to help demystify licensure!

  3. Alumni Webinar Series: Family Preservation with Diverse Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Expression (SOGIE) Youth

    October 28, 2019 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

    Join us to learn about the innovative family preservation work the Ruth Ellis Center is doing in collaboration with the Family Acceptance Project to increase safety, well-being, permanency and placement stability with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth in child welfare. We will connect the direct service work to the larger strategy of efforts lead through a Children's Bureau Quality Improvement Center model. The Ruth Ellis Center, under the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, is one of four national sites selected to develop, evaluate and publish information on services which increase positive outcomes with LGBTQ youth in foster care.

    An admissions representative will be coming to St. Mary's College to present on U-M's MSW and PhD programs. 

  8. Building A Cooperative Economy Building A Cooperative Economy

    October 31, 2019 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

    Margo Dalal, MSW ’18 will discuss her work as a non-extractive lender to cooperative and democratically owned and operated businesses with the Detroit Community Wealth Fund. We will discuss how particular methods of community empowerment, small-scale economic development and reclaiming ownership in marginalized urban communities, is an emerging area of social work.

    Dorian Warren, president of the Center for Community Change Action, will give a talk about his book, titled "The Hidden Rules of Race: Barriers to an Inclusive Economy," as part of the 2019 Real-World Perspectives on Poverty Solutions speaker series.
