    The School of Social Work has a long history of promoting the arts. When the School of Social Work building was designed, a dedicated group of alumni, faculty and art experts discussed the value of art and the value an art collection could bring to the School. Michigan Social Work's art collection is the first standing art collection within a school of social work in the nation.   4. Social Policy and Evaluation Student Meeting

    September 19, 2019 - 12:00pm to 2:00pm

    All new and continuing students with a practice method or method minor in Social Policy and Evaluation are invited to attend this session. Meet recent graduates, faculty, and staff and discuss evaluation opportunities within the School of Social Work and Curtis Research & Training Center. Learn about course planning, internship opportunities, career planning and more. Lunch will be provided.

  5. Alumni Webinar Series: Affirming Black Racial Identity in Urban Schools

    September 19, 2019 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

    Dr. Cass' session will explore the historical and contemporary underpinnings of African-centered education in places where young people are most frequently found: schools. This will also examine the application of racial affirming concepts, approaches, and strategies in the formation of an urban African-centered high school. The session is necessary for school-based practitioners engaging Black youth in the learning environment with a focus on urban adolescents.

  6. Queer/Cuir Américas Symposium

    September 20, 2019 - 1:00pm to 6:00pm

    This is a public symposium of the Cuir Américas Working Group | Grupo de Trabajo Feminista/Queer/Cuir to be held in Ann Arbor on September 20, 2019, to advance the publication of two scholarly journal special issues that will appear in the United States (in English) and in Brazil (in Spanish and Portuguese). They aspire to create a public space at the University of Michigan for the discussion of LGBTQ Latinx, Indigenous, and Afro- diasporic gender and sexuality through this one-day public event. Their interdisciplinary, transnational, action-based, Latinx queer feminist scholarly group includes university-based scholars and independent scholars and activists that are involved in diverse educational initiatives in several Latin American countries and U.S. Latinx communities. They will host a panel discussion, a keynote speaker, and a reception.
