  1. CASC OUT

    February 20, 2019 - 11:00am to 3:00pm

    You are invited to our third annual CASC OUT. This is a day where CASC Students can share stories of how they CASC on campus and in our larger communites and where Prospective CASC Students can learn more about the minor and the type of work they will do as part of the program. CASC OUT will be in celebration with World Day of Social Justice on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. 

    What is World Day of Social Justice? The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice in 2007. Observance of World Day of Social Justice should support efforts of the international community in poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being and justice for all.

    Join us at the Haven/Mason Hall Posting wall from 11AM-3PM and around campus to build community with people who committed to social justice, learn more about the minor, and talk with current CASC students.  Everyone is aslo encouraged to wear their CASC CHANGE T-Shirt and spread the word about CASC during this day, so if you need a shirt or other materials, stop by the CASC office (3833 SSW) for supplies!

    We look forward to you celebrating with us and sharing news about the important work happening in our communities and beyond.

  4. 2nd Year Continuing Students: Field Placement Application Due

    2nd year continuing students planning to stay at the same placement must still fill out this form to verify their plan with the Office of Field Instruction.

  5. Navigating Ethical Challenges for Social Work Online (Webinar)

    February 21, 2019 - 12:00pm to 2:00pm

    Professional social workers need to develop effective personal and professional strategies to effectively address ethical issues and challenges related to the use of social media in their practice. This webinar will utilize the 2017 NASW, ASWB, CSWE, and CSWA Standards for Technology in Social Work Practice and the NASW Code of Ethics to assist participants in exploring practice implications related to online networking (ON) and social media use. Participants will explore core ethical concepts that guide practice and define their personal and professional responsibilities with regard to risk management, as well as help them discover the benefits of sound agency policies related to the ethical use of ON and social media.

    Join us for a brief presentation and following discussion about "Muslim Garb". We will discuss topics related to Muslim dress and the connections between culture and religion. Food from Pizza House will be provided.

  8. LCPI Event: The Impact of Michigan's Medicaid Expansion on Dental Care Utilization, Oral Health and Job-Related Outcomes

    February 22, 2019 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

    Professor Edith C. Kieffer, MPH, Ph.D., University of Michigan School of Social Work, conducts research addressing health and health care disparities. She has extensive experience planning, conducting and analyzing data from qualitative formative research and intervention research studies in community and health care settings, including randomized clinical trials. Kieffer is a co-Investigator for the evaluation of the Healthy Michigan Plan Medicaid expansion. She is leading qualitative studies around Michigan that explore the experiences of beneficiaries and health care providers, and the impact of Medicaid coverage, including its requirements and incentives, on access to and use of care, beneficiary health and other outcomes.

  9. Black Panther Viewing Party

    The Association of Black Social Workers would like to invite you to a Black Panther Viewing Party. Join us for some fun, soul food, and a brief discussion following the film! There will be catering through Cuppy's Best Soul Food restaurant located in Ypsilanti.

    This event was supported in collaboration with the Center for Educational Outreach, SSW DEI Office, Office of Student Services, and professor Daicia Price.

  10. "Changing the Game: What is the Cost of Silence?"

    February 27, 2019 - 12:00pm to 1:15pm

    Join the students from the Fall 2018 Facing Race mini-course in a conversation around racial equity as we explore themes of: accountability, decolonization, challenging viewpoints, digging deeper and changing the narrative. Let's share what we can commit to doing to 'change the game' to address racial equity in the School of Social Work and beyond. This is a collaborative space for students, faculty, and staff.
