  2. Trauma-Informed Service Delivery: An Organizational Approach

    November 14, 2019 - 9:00am to 12:00pm

Organizations that deliver direct or indirect support and services to the general population have emerged to attempt to be trauma-informed by making a commitment to change the culture of their organization. SAMHSA shares four areas that organizations that are committed to being trauma informed: realize the impact and recovery of trauma, recognize the signs and symptoms of someone impacted by trauma, respond to needs with policy, procedural and practice changes, and resist re-traumatizing actions and behaviors. Adopting a trauma-informed approach within an organization is beneficial to recipients of services as well as the staff, volunteers and partners of the entity.

Developing a trauma-informed culture includes intervention at the micro, mezzo and macro levels. Supporting organizational shifts includes a systematic process that includes engagement, assessment, targeting goals, plan development, implementation and evaluation. This workshop seeks to support organizations in adopting a trauma-informed culture.
