  1. Incorporating ePortfolios Into the Classroom - A Faculty Training Session

    Join us for a faculty training session on how to incorporate ePortfolios into your classroom and advising sessions. During the session, we will also discuss why it is important to incorporate them. You will leave with the knowledge of how different online platforms (Seelio by Keypath, Google Sites, and LinkedIn) are used and the advantages and disadvantages of these platforms. We will share practical tips and examples so bring your laptops.

    Dr. Akhtar Badshah will discuss the rise of social enterprise and mission-based businesses and their impact on society. A new generation of funders are looking at new models of social investments; they also have a different approach to measuring social return on investments; they are utilizing technology extensively; and view at the role of public policy and scale with a new lens.  In his talk, Dr. Badshah will cover these issues and provide innovative approaches that are bending the arc of humanity for good. 

    Dr. Badshah is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in international development and philanthropy, managing Microsoft’s corporate philanthropic program and co-founding a global nonprofit for social enterprise, the Digital Partners Foundation.  He is currently the Chief Catalyst at Catalytic Innovators Group, distinguished visiting faculty University of Washington and the curator of Accelerating Social Transformation and a co-author of Technology at the Margins: How IT Meets the Needs of Emerging Markets.

  3. Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Mood Disorders

    March 16, 2018 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    The focus of this course is on the concepts, theory, principles and practice to the assessment and interpersonal psychotherapy of adults and adolescents with mood disorders. The course content reflects advanced material of current relevance for effective and evidence-based clinical social work practice. Specifically, this mini-course will provide updated training in the Interpersonal Psychotherapy treatment of mood disorders. This course will review diagnostic criteria and assessment, but will mainly focus on clinical skills and will be an interactive seminar type class.

  4. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and OCD Related Disorders

    March 16, 2018 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    This course will include a comprehensive review of cognitive-behavioral therapy and exposure and response prevention treatment for OCD and OC related disorders. Exposure therapy, cognitive skills and assessment techniques will be reviewed and practiced in an interactive format. Live CBT/ERP interventions and video case examples will be presented throughout the course. Training in intervention related homework related exercises and techniques for enhancing adherence to outside of session exercises will also be an integral part of the course.

  5. Restorative Practices in Schools and Communities

    March 16, 2018 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    Within the contest of restorative justice frameworks, course participants will learn about the school to prison pipeline and implications of zero tolerance policies pushing at-risk students into juvenile and criminal justice systems. Restorative practices aim to increase cultural awareness, practice, and advocacy in practitioners incorporating best practices for social emotional well-being and learning methods with young people in schools and communities.

    1. Clearly articulate the problems traditional justice and discipline models present for youth in communities and schools: addressing behavior management, school to prison pipeline, and expulsions.

    2. Panel discussion of people who are working in both communities and schools.

    3. Teaching skills around restorative practices (conferences and peace circles), conflict management, mediation, and facilitation.

  6. Learning Community on Poverty and Inequality (LCPI) Event with Heather Knauer

  7. MSW Virtual Open House 2018

    March 16, 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

    MSW Virtual Open House is focused on providing information for students admitted to or applying for the Fall 2018 MSW program. 

    This online session will address many questions that students have before starting the MSW program. Faculty, staff, and students of the MSW program will be available to discuss the curriculum, field placement, career services, the student experience, and more. There will be an opportunity to ask questions during the session. Join us!

  8. Nothing About Us Without Us: Disability and Ableism 101

    March 16, 2018 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm

    Over 23% of the U.S. population identifies has having one or more disabilities or impairments according to the 2010 U.S. Census. However, people with disabilities and those who identify as disabled are often left out of conversations around diversity and inclusion. This workshop will cover some of the history of language used by and about this community, what ableism is (as well as able-bodied/neurotpyical privilege), and ways to engage these types of oppression so ingrained in various systems. Participants will learn about ways ableism has been historically used to oppress disabled bodies; what ableist microaggressions are; discuss the concept of universal design, spoon theory, and the social model of disability; and finally, create action items to move towards more inclusive social work practice. Learners will also get the opportunity to ask questions and workshop current concerns.
