This course provides participants with an introduction to political social work, which is social work practice, theory, and research that focuses on the use of policy and politics to create social change. Participants will discuss case studies that illustrate how politics impact the lives of those served on both a micro and macro level as well as explore the ways in which social workers from the case studies must engage with policy and political systems to create change. Participants will also gain the tools to implement political social work skills into their practice as well as techniques to effectively advocate to policymakers.

    November 3, 2017 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

Preparing to go on the job market can be stressful.  Join Sue Ann Savas and Barb Hiltz as we share the ideas and tips we have collected from students and employers over the years. Discussion topics include:

How do you describe your experiences as relevant in another context?

How do you help a potential employer see you as the most qualified applicant?

Should you negotiate your offer? (Yes! We will explore how.)

How do you communicate the importance of your macro-level social work skills?

Join us, and come with your questions!

This will be the first of a two-part networking event series in which you will learn about the aforementioned topics in order to prepare for a Networking Event on November 29th.
