  1. Basic Skills for Dialectical Behavior Therapy

    DBT is an empirically supported treatment for individuals with severe emotionally regulation problems. Part of the treatment consists of teaching individuals specific skill sets in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and crisis management. Participants will learn an overview of these skills and how to integrate these skills into their clinical practice in both a group and individual therapy setting.

  2. Opioid Use & Substance Use Disorders - Medication Assisted Treatments (MAT)

  4. Budgeting and Fiscal Management

    This course will present the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to develop and manage the budget of a nonprofit social service organization and its programs. Students will learn to use techniques necessary to: 1) Plan, develop, display, revise, monitor, and evaluate a program budget; 2) Evaluate past financial performance (e.g. financial statements); 3) Monitor and evaluate the cost-efficiency and cost-effectiveness of a nonprofit program and a nonprofit organization.

  5. SSW Career Services Student Alumni Networking Lunch with Andrea Muladore

    Come have lunch and network with esteemed alum Andrea Muladore. 

    Andrea Muladore, MSW '81,  spent 31 years at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland, Michigan, where she served as manager of social work, spiritual care and Employee Assistance (EAP) programs.

    She developed the spiritual care program from the ground up and worked to insure that social work maintained its core values and strengths as hospitals transitioned to case management (often nursing driven).

    This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in health care, clinical work and management.

  7. Sport Social Work: Beyond the Playing Field

    June 14, 2019 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    Sport Social Work is becoming a powerful force in the field of sport and recreation. Social workers are leaders in infusing teams and programs with empowerment, self development, and inclusion, This workshop we will explore how social work values, concepts and interventions on both the micro and macro level enhance sport and recreation services. Specific strategies such as strength-based coaching, team building, conflict resolution, family collaboration, diversity training, community development, advocacy, and social policy will be discussed. Model interdisciplinary programs serving at-risk youth, members of the LGBT community, older adults, individuals with disabilities, and other special populations will be highlighted.   8. Thirteenth Annual Restoring the Neighborhood Backpack & School Supply Drive Thirteenth Annual Restoring the Neighborhood Backpack & School Supply Drive

    We invite others to join us in service by donating backpacks and/or school supplies for the 13th Neighborhood Festival Annual Backpack Giveaway in Detroit. The aim is to support the community in educational sustainability.  "Whatever good that will come out of our neighborhoods will be a direct result of the good we invest in our neighborhoods". 

    Service is an essential core value of being a social worker, and the New Leaders of Afrikan Centered Social Work Scholars are excited to offer our service of support to the 13th Neighborhood Festival Annual Backpack Giveaway in conjunction with Yusef Bunchy Shakur in the City of Detroit that will be held on August 3, 2019. All donations will be given to the children/youth of the area. We hope you will share in our efforts by donating to this great event.
