OSS Admissions Coordinator

Nyshourn D. Price

Nyshourn is from California, born and raised in Los Angeles. She's been a practicing social worker for over 20 years. Social work was a means of survival as she pursued her undergraduate degree as a single parent and soon she realized that it was her calling. Nyshourn moved to Michigan with her three children to acquire her MSW in the late 1990s.
She has worked in a variety of settings from groups homes, to running a sober living home & the Ann Arbor downtown shelter for many years, to doing therapy with both youth and adults who faced issues with drug and/or alcohol. She also ran groups with individuals that committed retail fraud along with working with juvenile sex offenders.

The heart of her work has been with disenfranchised populations who battle daily struggles of poverty, underemployment and systematic barriers as well as struggle with substance abuse and/or mental illness. Assisting people in thriving and acquiring a better quality of life is very important to Nyshourn.

For nearly 14 years she's worked in the school of social work in the Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management as a student services specialist where she supports the MSW students, work closely with student leaders, support & host events, along with a host of other administrative responsibilities. Another great opportunity is in 2016, she stepped into an additional role as the program manager for the New Leaders in African Centered Social Work. As an Afrikan descendant women, decentering the dominant narrative in the field to provide inclusion of BIPOC voices, research and best practices to serve the global society is imperative!

Nyshourn's children are all grown, she was gifted with her first grandchild in October 2020 and continue to advocate for social justice and equity.
