"From an early start, I knew I wanted to be a physician but as I grew older, I had learned about health disparities in my Health Science Scholars Program learning community, many courses, through my own experiences, and from my peers and the media. I grew frustrated and disempowered as I was continuously learning about how disadvantaged communities suffered at the hands of a system meant to protect wellbeing. I had all this knowledge about health disparities but had no idea what to do about them, or how I could address them as a physician. When I was introduced to CASC and social work, I realized that combining social work with medicine would provide me with the social justice lens that I would need in my future work. CASC taught me how to define my role as a change agent and how to incorporate it into my future work."
