The Fedele F. Fauri Memorial Conference on child welfare is presented annually in recognition of the former University of Michigan Dean and Vice President Fedele F. Fauri and his wife. Dean Fauri's leadership and accomplishments in the field of child welfare spanned nearly 50 years.
The purpose of the 2019 conference, "Promoting Youth Opportunity and Re-engagement", will call attention to the ways that youth become disengaged from education and workforce systems, factors contributing to inequities within these systems, and strategies to overcome structural and systemic barriers to constructive work and career development. As states expand policies aimed at transitional age youth, including those affected by adverse and traumatic life experiences, the conference goal is to explore ways to support resilience through re-engagement, especially by changing policies so that systems become more attuned to the needs of young people from diverse backgrounds, strengths-based, and focused on inclusion.
