SSW Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) at the School of Social Work is a catalyst and support system to students, staff and faculty for the purpose of cultivating a conscious community where every person feels affirmed, respected, valued and appreciated. Learn more about a few ways that you can get involved with the School's DEI efforts and furthering these values in the social work profession and beyond.

DEI GSSA Position

The School of Social Work's DEI Office has received funding for one 50% (20 hours/week) Graduate Student Staff Assistant for the upcoming academic year. This competitive position will focus on three key areas in our DEI strategic plan -- Education and Scholarship, Recruitment and Retention, and Promoting an Equitable and Inclusive Community -- in addition to overall coordination of our DEI strategic planning efforts as a part of the DEI Office team.

This appointment provides tuition, required fees, stipend, GradCare health insurance and dental insurance. Deadline to apply is August 31, 2020.

DEI Professional Development Certificate

Hone your leadership skills to work in a diverse environment while fostering a climate of inclusivity by participating in the Rackham DEI Certificate Program. Apply by September 14, 2020.

Common Roots

Common Roots is a committee consisting of representatives from the SSW's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, LatinX Social Work Coalition, Black Radical Healing Pathways, Association of Black Social Workers, Office of Student Services, Asian Pacific Islander Coalition and other SSW students. Through collaboration, community support, and affirmation, Common Roots hopes to build healing spaces for, and to nurture the flourishment and empowerment of, communities of color at the School of Social Work, through programming that is open to all who share its mission. Undoing Racism Workgroup

Join this collective of students, faculty and staff who meet to discuss how to incorporate anti-racist practices into our work and ways that we can better embody that within the School of Social Work.
