Virtual Fall SEED Orientation

Share, Explore, Engage, Discover

While the U-M School of Social Work continues to plan for an in-person public health informed fall term, we are planning to hold a virtual Fall SEED Orientation. We have made this decision in consideration of the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We also felt that in these ever-changing times, it would be good to plan something certain.

We are excited to be able to offer Fall SEED Orientation virtually via Canvas with a combination of synchronous live Zoom meetings and asynchronous recorded videos and materials. Where possible, live Zoom meetings will be recorded and posted for those that are unable to attend at scheduled times. However, we expect and strongly prefer that all incoming MSW students attend Virtual Fall SEED Orientation during scheduled times.

Fall SEED Orientation will include a SW510 SEED Mini-Course with various engaging topics to choose from. All incoming MSW students are expected to register for a section of SW510, so be sure to register for a section of SW510 when registration occurs in July.

Virtual Fall SEED Orientation will provide a great opportunity for you to experience Canvas, which is the learning management system and online space for all SSW courses.

Handicapped parking is available in all structures, including the Forest Structure. Display of a state handicap parking permit and payment of the hourly fee are required.

All incoming MSW students will be added to a 'Fall SEED Orientation' Canvas "course" before orientation week begins. Various online activities are scheduled each day during Fall SEED Orientation Week, August 25 - August 28, 2020.

International Student Orientation will be held virtually on August 24, 2020. In addition to Fall SEED Orientation, incoming international students will also have a Canvas: SSW International Student Orientation "course".

We anticipate having more information about what an in-person public health informed fall term will look like in early July. Information will be sent via email as soon as it is available, so be sure to check your UMich email regularly!
We look forward to meeting you at Virtual Fall SEED Orientation! And seeing you this fall!
