SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES
Job Summary
The academic program specialist/field education coordinator position in the School of Social Work (SSW), Office of Field Education (OFE) is a complex and rigorous one that requires candidates to demonstrate a student-centered professional focus, a strong commitment to social work education, field training, community engagement, and social work values and ethics. The candidate in this position will work in a high functioning team environment collaborating on developing community-based field placement opportunities and preparing students for field education in our online MSW programs, as well as potential similar responsibilities with our residential programs. The candidate in this position will engage in a myriad of interactions with community agencies, as well as with administrative units and student organizations within the School of Social Work including the Dean's Office, Associate Deans? Offices, MSW Program Director?s Office, the SSW Career Center, and the Office of Student Services.

Responsibilities*
New field site identification, recruitment, selection, orientation and training.
Search for and realize new (diverse and high quality) field site options for students dependent on student interests and location, and consistent with our pathways and Council on Social Work Education requirements.
Participate in providing a robust orientation and training efforts for new sites.
Student field placement development
Develop and facilitate field placement for students with field agencies.
Utilize optimal student matching processes and protocols to facilitate placement.
Regularly communicates and collaborates during this process with the field faculty assigned to the specific field sites.
Provide student support services.
Assist in providing student support for navigating the field placement process (both programmatic and individual), including pre-field orientation and advising.
Counsel and follow-up with students regarding their field plan, agency interviews, registration and required forms.
Troubleshooting initial student concerns, elevating concerns to field faculty, Assistant Director, and Director of Field Education as appropriate.
SSW, OFE administration and project management.
Participate in OFE team and placing meetings.
Participate in online program meetings.
Work directly with the Director and Assistant Director of Field Education on OFE projects and innovations in the area of agency recruitment and development, agency vetting, student support services, FMP enhancements used in the placing process and other curricular innovations.
Work on special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
Master of Social Work Degree from an accredited MSW program.
Strong commitment to the School of Social Work?s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent problem-solving abilities, ability to understand and improve upon complex processes, strong attention to detail, and ability to coordinate multiple projects.

Possess current and relevant technology-based skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands, and work effectively under pressure Preferred professional experience in field education.
Previous experience in field education, interpersonal practice, student services, and interagency collaboration.
Demonstrated knowledge of the University of Michigan School of Social Work Office of Field Education and the MSW program.
