  2. Learning in "Real Life": Stories of Impact Through Engagement

    February 9, 2015 to April 14, 2015

This exhibit features a breadth of projects showcasing engaged learning opportunities at Michigan. Engaged learning foregrounds authentic, participatory, problem-based learning and community engagement in academic settings, such as service learning, academic internships, undergraduate research, education abroad, and civic arts engagement. From weaving in Peru to building a low-cost book scanner in the engineering classroom to combatting plant blindness through creative expression, these projects enable students to put theory into practice, integrate their learning across contexts, take greater ownership over their education, and create positive social change in very “real” ways.

For more information on this exhibit and other programming related to engaged learning see the library web site page Learning in Real Life Event Series .

  3. Advanced Field Peer Consultation Group

    February 9, 2015 - 12:00pm to 2:00pm

The Peer Consultation Group offers a seminar-like experience where students can come to consult each other with field-related issues/support. The groups are open and drop-in. You can come to as many or as little as you like.

  4. VIBES Session

    February 9, 2015 - 12:00pm to 2:00pm

There are many moments where the idea of "keep on keepin on" may be easier said than done. To try and help process some of those thoughts, feelings, emotions, deeper learning, new insights, frustrations; talk about current social issues, national or global topics; keep the momentum going from some of the really powerful forums and panels and discussions last week; share best practices about self-care and how you're getting through; or just force yourself to take time to engage with some of the other amazing people in the SSW that you may or may not know yet and haven't been able to hang out with in the way you want to - consider dropping by the next VIBES Session.

If you are unable to make it but want information, have questions, suggestions, comments, or a strong desire to send an email just because, you are absolutely welcome to send an email to Lloyd Shelton (lloydsh@umich.edu) or Sarah Emeritz (semeritz@umich.edu), or Phyllis Shelman (pshelman@umich.edu) if you have specific event or social related ideas. You are also invited to stop in and visit members of the Student Union during their office hours or set up an appointment.

Food will be provided by the Office of Student Services and the Dean's Office.
