  1. Field Instructor Training Workshop

    A bi-annual workshop designed to train and update field instructors on field related curriculum.

    Program Agenda: Registration & Breakfast 8:00-8:15  Sign-In/Packets Morning Session 8:15-10:00 Presentation: “What Makes a Safe Beginner?”
    The course is geared to engage field instructors in discussions, role plays, & share information regarding student field training. University/school requirements & expectations are discussed along with a session on "what makes a safe beginner" related to assessing student abilities about when & where students can begin to function more independently & with more complex cases/issues. 10:15-12:00 Small Group Sessions: “Building the Bridge Between Field and the SSW”
    Facilitated by Field Faculty in assigned break-out rooms.
      Lunch 12:00-12:45   Afternoon Session 12:45-1:45 Presentation:“Understanding and Applying the ADA in Field Instruction” 
    Participants will be able to access UM resources for students with disabilities and gain increased awareness of ADA guidelines to understand provisions of reasonable accommodations to ensure students with disabilities have the same opportunities as other students. 1:45-3:15 Presentation: "Affecting Change & Improving Outcomes: Utilizing Technology to Enhance Competency-based Learning in Field Instruction"
    The focus of this course is to prepare and equip the participants in utilizing technology to assist them in the development of educationally sound field-based assignments that help prepare our field students in becoming proficient with the required social work competencies.  Participants will learn how to access and use the online Educational Agreement which acts as the contract for field placement.

     

  2. Family Psychoeducation Intervention in Work with Adults, Adolescents, Children and Their Families/Extended Support Networks

    January 23, 2015 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

    This course will focus on developing the group work skills necessary to implement evidence-based family psychoeducation interventions in work with adults, adolescents, children and their families. Special emphasis will be given to the family psychoeducation approach using multiple family groups in the treatment of severe psychiatric disorders. This course will examine the theoretical and empirical foundations for family psychoeducation, as well as, the practice of multifamily group treatment in schizophrenia, bi-polar illness, major depressive disorder, borderline personality disorder and with children and adolescents with serious mental illnesses.

Come to this info session to learn more about the CASC community, what CASC is and what it can offer you in your undergraduate program, the types of courses you'll take, and the available opportunities for CASC students after graduation! 

  4. The Grieving Infant - Helping Babies and Young Children When They Must Move

    January 23, 2015 - 1:00pm to 4:15pm

    Infants and toddlers mourn the loss of primary caregivers in ways that are often overlooked and/or misunderstood. This workshop will address the ways infants and toddlers show their stress and distress, and ways that child welfare professionals, including caregivers, can reduce the negative impact of separation.

  5. MSW Prospective Student Webinar

    January 23, 2015 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

    This session will provide the opportunity to learn more about the University of Michigan School of Social Work's MSW Program. Topics covered will include: MSW Curriculum, Dual Degree Programs, Application Process, Financial Aid, and more. 

    The session will be interactive, allowing participants to ask any questions that they have.
