This group will give you the opportunity to discuss your field work and get valuable feedback, as well as spend some time with your fellow advanced standing peers. This is an open, drop-in group.

Philanthropy and evaluation can work together to be greater than the sum of their parts, to create a larger impact than they could alone.  However, philanthropy and evaluation can also be at odds, with competing values, foci, and expected impacts.  

In this panel discussion, we will explore the partnership between philanthropy and evaluation from the viewpoints of foundations and evaluators.  We will examine questions such as: How do foundations approach evaluation? How do foundations use evaluation results? How do evaluators work with foundations? How do foundations determine impact?

Panelists include:

Jane Morgan, Independent Evaluator

Pam Smith, President, United Way of Washtenaw County

Professor John Tropman of the School of Social Work will moderate the discussion.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has gained recognition as an evidence-based practice by SAMHSA, the Veterans' Health Administration, and the American Psychological Association. In this workshop, participants will learn about the theory, technique, and orienting philosophy of ACT. The practice of ACT will be framed as a stand-alone intervention, and also a philosophical approach or clinical stance that can augment treatment as usual. Instead of a lecture format, the workshop encourages peer discussion and experiential learning, including firsthand exposure to ACT-informed mindfulness exercises and values-clarification techniques.
