  1. November Social Justice Grand Rounds Series: Ethics CEU's

    November 11, 2014 - 10:30am to 12:00pm

    The UMHS Department of Social Work Education Committee and the UMHS Department of Social Work Staff Development Committee invite you to attend the fall term 2014 Social Justice Grand Rounds Series. These rounds offer unique opportunities for both social work students, UMHS social work staff, and U-M SSW faculty.

    *CE availability:  1.5 CE per event. No registration is necessary.

    Social Justice Grand Rounds is the only structured event at U-M that formally unites graduate students in social work, field instructors, other social workers, and social work faculty in a collaborative effort to address social injustice through the use of an actual case illustrative of injustice in health care, as presented by a student in Field at UMHS. This event will have Stephany Trujillo as the student presenter.

  2. Prospective Student Luncheon - Malibu

    November 11, 2014 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

    This lunch session will provide the opportunity to learn more about the University of Michigan School of Social Work's MSW & PhD Programs. Topics covered will include: MSW/PhD Curriculum, Dual Degree Programs, Application Process, Degree Requirements, and Financial Aid.  Lunch will be provided.

  3. Michigan Global Connections: Get Connected, technologies that enhance learning and connection at U-M

    November 11, 2014 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

    MGC is an opportunity for U.S. and international students to think creatively and share their respective cultures collaboratively by preparing and delivering informal presentations. Participating in MGC will help students increase their understanding of multiple world views, become more conscious of the impact of culture in everyday life, and improve their communication and presentation skills.

    This Brown Bag workshop (meaning you can bring your lunch to the workshop) will examine technologies that connect students to the University of Michigan and each other. We will look at technologies used at U-M (e.g. CTools, Mbox, Wolverine Access) and social technologies that help build cultural understanding and friendship (e.g. DuoLingo, MOOCs, Facebook, Down to Chill). This will be an interactive session, so please bring a digital device if available. Light refreshments will be served.

  4. Positioning Yourself to Practice Ethically: The Importance of Collegial Consultation in a Fast Paced World

    November 11, 2014 - 1:00pm to 6:00pm

    This workshop will utilize the NASW Code of Ethics as a guide and a reference tool and provide participants an opportunity to explore practice implications while determining individual professional responsibility. Participants will engage in small group discussions regarding specific case examples from their everyday practice or those provided. The will have the opportunity to process these cases in small groups seeking potential resolution to the stated dilemmas utilizing a conceptual framework. Participants will act as peer consultants during this process and discussion will focus on identifying potential vulnerable areas of practice, developing risk management strategies and identifying areas for further exploration. Social workers/agencies also need to wrap their brains around the way the digital age has created new sets of ethical questions related to using social media in professional settings.   6. CASC Backpacking and Advising

    November 11, 2014 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm

    This event is a great chance for CASC students to check out the Winter 2015 CASC course guide, hear the inside scoop on CASC courses from the Student Advisory Board, and check in with the advising staff about courses. It's also a great time to socialize with other CASC students!
